Conference description

The 12th Southern California Flow Physics Symposium (SoCal Fluids XII) will be held at the University of Southern California on Saturday, April 14, 2018.

This conference aims to bring together researchers from universities throughout Southern California, working in all areas of fluid dynamics, for a one-day exchange of ideas in an informal and collaborative atmosphere.

To promote education and exposure, talks are invited from graduate students and postdocs. Faculty and undergraduate students are highly encouraged to attend. All universities in Southern California are welcome to participate.

Contributed papers are limited to 10 minutes with 2 additional minutes for discussion. This is followed by 1 minute for transition to the next paper and introduction of the next speaker.

During the talk, the monitor will indicate at 8 minutes that the speaker has to finish in 2 minutes. At 10 minutes, it will indicate that the speaker's presentation time is over. At 12 minutes, it will indicate that transition to the next speaker must occur.

The symposium will be held in the Von KleinSmid Center Library (VKC 102 and 156) and Social Sciences Building (room SOS B4). Registration/check-in, lunch and coffee breaks will take place in the outside area between both buildings. Please see the maps below for directions.

Updated parking information The Los Angeles Department of Transportation (LADOT) just notified us that this weekend there will be street construction work on Figueroa Street. The McCarthy Way Entrance and Parking Structure that we recommended for the event are only accessible via Figueroa St. While the entrance and parking structure will be open, there may be traffic delays. Therefore, USC Parking recommends instead to enter campus via the Jefferson Boulevard Entrance, located at the intersection of Jefferson Blvd and McClintock Avenue. The closest parking structure to the symposium that can be accessed from Jefferson Blvd Entrance is Royal Street Parking Structure on W 34th St. To get there, once you enter campus on McClintock Ave, turn left onto W 34th St and continue ahead until you find the parking structure on the left, near the end of that street.

Please note that a $12 parking permit must be purchased at the entrance. Other parking locations are available on campus and can be found on this map. For more information regarding parking, please visit USC Public Parking website.

The closest metro station is on Exposition Blvd (Expo Park/USC Station on this map). Please visit LA Metro for more information.
